The blockbuster film “Gadar 2,” starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has achieved extraordinary success at the box office. It made history by grossing an impressive Rs 55.40 crore on the celebrated occasion of Independence Day. Continuing its triumphant run, even on the sixth day of release which happened to fall on a working Wednesday, the movie managed to amass a substantial Rs 34.50 crore in box office earnings. These figures, reported by industry tracker Sacnilk, contribute significantly to “Gadar 2’s” remarkable total domestic nett collection of Rs 263.48 crore. Impressively, the film maintained an occupancy rate of 56.09% on Wednesday.
The much-anticipated “Gadar 2” made its debut on August 11, commencing its box office journey with a stellar opening day collection of Rs 40.1 crore. Despite facing tough competition from “OMG 2,” released on the same day, and the sustained success of “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” which had been performing well since its July 28 release, “Gadar 2” has consistently proven its mettle at the box office.
Remarkably, even within its inaugural week in theaters, “Gadar 2” has secured its position as the second-highest grossing domestic film of the year, trailing only behind “Pathaan.” According to data from Bollywood Hungama, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” achieved an impressive collection of Rs 543.05 crore in India. Additionally, “Gadar 2,” skillfully directed by Anil Sharma, has already surpassed the lifetime collection of “The Kerala Story,” which amounted to Rs 242.20 crore.
As a sequel to the 2001 hit “Gadar,” which emerged as one of the highest grossing films of that year, “Gadar 2” continues to captivate audiences with its enthralling storyline. The original “Gadar” had competed against “Lagaan” upon its release, and both films achieved significant success at the box office. While “Gadar” held a dominant position in India, “Lagaan” garnered international acclaim, even securing a coveted Academy Awards nomination.
During a press conference held to commemorate the success of “Gadar 2,” Sunny Deol reaffirmed his commitment to producing high-quality films akin to its predecessor. He assured his fans by stating, “I promise all my fans that I’m only going to make good films like these. They say films for ‘masses’. What do you mean by that word? Public is public and that means everyone.”
